About Super Pac-Man

Super Pac-Man is Namco’s 1982 arcade sequel, published in the US by Bally Midway. It swaps the original’s dot-eating maze for a key-and-door structure — Pac-Man collects keys to unlock doors blocking sections of the maze, eats “super foods” to grow giant and temporarily invincible, and munches fruit and other items alongside the returning ghost-chasing formula.

It was a more significant mechanical departure from the original than most of the franchise’s early arcade follow-ups, several of which (like Ms. Pac-Man) were built by teams outside Namco. Despite the design changes, it never reached the same cultural footprint as the original or Ms. Pac-Man, and is now one of the lesser-known entries in Namco’s early-80s Pac-Man lineup.
