About Game Boy games
The Game Boy launched in 1989 and dominated portable gaming for more than a decade. Its four-shade green screen was simple compared to its color rivals, but long battery life, a low price and a killer pack-in game, Tetris, made it a worldwide hit. In 1998 the Game Boy Color added a color screen while staying compatible with the original library, and together the two systems sold more than 118 million units.
The handheld became home to some of Nintendo's most important series. Game Freak's Pokémon games, from Pokemon Red to Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Crystal, became a global phenomenon. Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins introduced Wario, who later got his own series in Wario Land II, and Kirby's Dream Land marked the first appearance of Kirby. Metroid II: Return of Samus and the Zelda Oracle games showed that big adventures could work on a small screen.
