About Super Mario World

Super Mario World is Nintendo’s 1990 SNES launch title, directed by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka as the fourth mainline entry in the platformer series. It introduces Yoshi as a rideable dinosaur companion who can eat enemies, and expands the overworld into a branching map with secret exits that unlock alternate paths through its 96 exits across eight worlds.

Bundled with the console at launch in most regions, it served as the SNES’s system-seller in much the same role Super Mario Bros. had played for the NES, and its branching secret-exit structure — rewarding exploration over a single linear path — influenced the series’ level design for years afterward. It remains one of the best-selling games on the platform.
