About General Chaos

General Chaos is Electronic Arts’ 1994 Genesis release, developed by Game Refuge — a studio founded by former Midway developers Brian Colin and Jeff Nauman. It’s a satirical squad-based war game where two small teams of exaggerated soldier characters, with names like Hambone and Bonnie, fight across destructible battlefields in real time rather than taking turns.

Its play style sits closer to real-time tactics than traditional turn-based strategy — you direct one soldier at a time while the rest of your squad follows loosely, managing positioning and terrain rather than base-building or resource collection. That direct, arcade-paced approach to squad combat made it an early and distinctive example of real-time tactical action on consoles.
