Strategy Games

Koei was the king of console strategy, with historical simulations like Romance of the Three Kingdoms II, Gemfire and Uncharted Waters that let you manage kingdoms, armies and trade routes. On the Genesis, Technosoft's Herzog Zwei is often credited as one of the first real-time strategy games.

Tactical fans should try Square's mech strategy RPG Front Mission and Sega's Langrisser, while Cannon Fodder, Syndicate and General Chaos mix strategy with action. These games reward patience, so take your time with each turn.
