Raiden ARCADE
About Raiden
Raiden is Seibu Kaihatsu’s 1990 vertical shoot-’em-up, built around two starfighter jets fending off an alien invasion across eight increasingly dense stages. Its weapon system lets you choose between a spread vulcan gun and a narrower, more powerful laser, alongside homing missiles, forcing a tradeoff between wide coverage and concentrated firepower.
It became one of the defining shoot-’em-ups of the early 1990s, known for a steep, bullet-dense difficulty curve that helped set expectations for the “bullet hell” style the genre increasingly leaned into over the following decade. Its commercial success spawned a long-running series of sequels that continued across arcade, console, and PC releases for years afterward.
