Front Mission SNES
About Front Mission
Front Mission is G-Craft’s 1995 tactical RPG, published by Square exclusively in Japan for the Super Famicom in February 1995 — the game was never officially localized, and English-speaking players have relied on a fan translation completed in 2001 to play it in English. You command a squad of wanzers, customizable walking mech tanks, across grid-based battlefields in a near-future conflict.
Its mix of turn-based tactical positioning with deep mech customization — swapping individual arm, leg, and body parts to change a unit’s stats and equipment — set it apart from more straightforward tactics games of the era, closer to a strategy-RPG crossed with a mecha-building sim. Created by Toshiro Tsuchida, it launched a long-running Square (later Square Enix) series that continued across multiple sequels and platforms for decades afterward.
