About Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara

Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara is Capcom’s 1996 licensed beat-’em-up, the sequel to Tower of Doom and one of relatively few arcade brawlers built directly on tabletop D&D rules — six character classes, from fighter to elf to dwarf, each with distinct stats, spellcasting, and equipment options rather than a single shared moveset.

Running on Capcom’s CPS-2 hardware, it layers RPG-style character building — leveling, gold collection, item shops between stages — onto standard beat-’em-up combat, in the same spirit as the studio’s earlier Knights of the Round but built around an official licensed ruleset rather than an original setting. It’s frequently cited among the more mechanically ambitious brawlers Capcom released in the CPS-2 era.
