1943: The Battle of Midway ARCADE
About 1943: The Battle of Midway
1943: The Battle of Midway is Capcom’s 1987 vertically scrolling shooter, the direct sequel to the studio’s earlier 1942. You pilot a fighter plane over the Pacific during the WWII Battle of Midway, dodging and destroying waves of enemy aircraft and ships.
It introduces an energy bar in place of the original’s simple one-hit-death lives system, letting players absorb some damage or burn through it faster by using special weapons, adding a resource-management layer the first game lacked. A Japan-exclusive enhanced remake, 1943 Kai: Midway Kaisen, followed the next year, while the original spawned Western ports across multiple home computer platforms.
