Fatal Fury Special ARCADE
About Fatal Fury Special
Fatal Fury Special is SNK’s 1993 update to Fatal Fury 2, one of the studio’s earliest fighting franchises and a direct predecessor to its later King of Fighters series. It expands the previous game’s roster with returning characters cut from Fatal Fury 2 and several new ones, while rebalancing the two-plane fighting system — moving between a foreground and background line — that had defined the series since its original 1991 entry.
Running on Neo Geo MVS hardware, its larger roster and refined balance made it a well-regarded update rather than a full sequel, bridging the gap before Fatal Fury 3 properly moved the series forward. The Fatal Fury series’ character roster and setting later became a core part of the crossover cast SNK drew on for King of Fighters.
