Power Instinct ARCADE
About Power Instinct
Power Instinct is Atlus’s 1993 fighting game, notable for a comedic tone and an unusually varied cast even by fighting-game standards — including an elderly grandmother character, Otane, whose exaggerated old-lady moveset became the series’ most recognizable gimmick. Its combat otherwise follows the traditional one-on-one arcade fighter format common to the genre in the early 1990s.
Releasing during a period when Street Fighter II clones were flooding arcades, its comedic character designs and self-aware tone helped it stand out from the more straight-faced competition, and it launched a long-running series that continued across multiple sequels through the rest of the decade, developed by different studios under Atlus’s original concept.
