Air Diver GENESIS
About Air Diver
Air Diver is a 1990 cockpit-view flight combat shooter for the Sega Mega Drive, developed by Asmik. Rather than a top-down or side-scrolling shooter, it puts the camera directly behind the pilot’s seat of an F-119 stealth fighter, in the same first-person “behind-the-canopy” style Sega used in arcade hits like After Burner and G-LOC: Air Battle.
The setup is pure late-Cold-War action-movie fare: a rogue military force has assembled enough firepower that conventional armies can’t touch it, and it falls to one pilot to fly deep into hostile airspace and take it apart from the cockpit of an experimental jet. Missions alternate between open-sky dogfighting and low-altitude strafing runs against ground targets, with the HUD and instrument panel rendered right in the foreground the whole time.
Combat runs on three inputs: a rapid-fire cannon for anything in front of you, a lock-on missile for tougher or more distant targets, and an afterburner boost to close distance or dodge incoming fire. It’s a straightforward control scheme built around split-second target prioritization rather than memorized patterns, which is part of why rail-shooter fans still bring it up alongside its more famous arcade cousins.
