About Cool Spot

Cool Spot is Virgin Games’ 1993 platformer built around the 7 Up soda mascot, developed by David Perry for Genesis and SNES before being ported to several other platforms the following year. Playing as the sunglasses-wearing, anthropomorphized red dot from the 7 Up logo, you jump and throw soda-bubble projectiles through stages to rescue captured fellow Spots hidden throughout each level.

Despite its overtly commercial soda-mascot premise, it was widely praised on release for genuinely strong platforming design, tight controls, and a soundtrack by Tommy Tallarico — qualities that helped it stand apart from the usual glut of shallow advertising tie-in games of the era. It’s frequently cited as one of the best examples of a licensed mascot game actually succeeding as a real game in its own right.
