The Addams Family GENESIS
About The Addams Family
The Addams Family is Ocean Software’s 1992 action-platformer based on the 1991 film of the same name, designed by Warren Lancashire with programming by James Higgins, released for Genesis alongside SNES, Amiga, and Atari ST versions. Playing as Gomez Addams, you explore the family mansion room by room, solving light puzzles and fighting off intruders to rescue captured family members.
Its open, exploration-driven mansion structure — backtracking between connected rooms to find keys and items rather than a strictly linear stage progression — set it apart from more straightforward side-scrolling licensed platformers of the era. Different regional versions of the game varied notably in level design and difficulty between platforms, a common practice for Ocean’s simultaneous multi-platform licensed releases at the time.
