Kirby’s Dream Course SNES

Kirby’s Dream Course is HAL Laboratory and Nintendo EAD’s 1994 spin-off for the SNES, Kirby’s first appearance on the platform. It began development as a standalone golf-puzzle game called Special Tee Shot, with HAL swapping in Kirby and series characters after the pink hero’s popularity on Game Boy made him a natural fit for the redesign.

Rather than traditional golf, Kirby launches himself like a ball across floating courses, bouncing off enemies and terrain to line up a shot into the goal hole, inhaling enemies along the way to gain their copy abilities for that hole only. Its hybrid of golf physics and puzzle-course design gave it a distinct identity apart from both traditional golf games and the mainline Kirby platformers.
