Kirby’s Super Star SNES
About Kirby’s Super Star
Kirby’s Super Star is HAL Laboratory’s 1996 SNES entry, directed by a young Masahiro Sakurai, structured as eight separate sub-games rather than one continuous adventure — ranging from short arcade-style challenges to a full-length campaign, each playable independently from a central menu.
It also introduced Helper characters: a second player, or an AI companion, can take on an enemy’s copied ability alongside Kirby, turning several of the sub-games into two-player cooperative runs. That structural variety and co-op support made it stand out from earlier Kirby platformers built as single continuous stages, and several of its sub-games were later remade individually on the Nintendo DS.
