Rock n’ Roll Racing SNES
About Rock n’ Roll Racing
Rock n’ Roll Racing is a vehicular-combat racer developed by Silicon & Synapse — the studio that later renamed itself Blizzard Entertainment — and published by Interplay for the SNES in 1993, with a Genesis port following in 1994. It began development as a sequel to the studio’s RPM Racing before Interplay’s marketing team added licensed rock music and rebranded it mid-project.
Races take place on isometric tracks across alien worlds, with weapons and armor upgrades purchasable between races to knock rivals off the track, layered over a soundtrack of licensed rock songs including George Thorogood’s “Bad to the Bone” and Steppenwolf’s “Born to Be Wild” — a genuinely unusual choice for a console game’s audio budget at the time. It’s now most often remembered as one of the earliest commercial projects from the team that would go on to found Blizzard.
