Jackal NES

Jackal is Konami’s run-and-gun game, released to arcades in 1986 as Top Gunner and ported to the NES in September 1988 under its Japanese title to avoid confusion with Konami’s separate Top Gun game. You drive a jeep through enemy territory, machine-gunning ground troops and rescuing captured POWs while lobbing grenades at heavier targets.

The NES conversion expands on the arcade original with wider stages, a reworked level structure, and new bosses not present in the coin-op version — an unusually generous home port for the era rather than a straight downgrade. Its blend of vehicular combat and POW-rescue objectives set it apart from more straightforward run-and-gun contemporaries like Konami’s own Contra.
