Comix Zone GENESIS
About Comix Zone
Comix Zone is Sega’s 1995 beat-’em-up, framed as a literal comic book — you play Sketch Turner, an artist pulled inside his own comic after a villain escapes into the real world, and fight through stages presented as comic panels, occasionally drawing new objects onto the page to solve puzzles or damage enemies.
Its panel-based presentation and metafictional premise were unusual even by mid-90s standards, and its distinctive hand-drawn art style pushed the Genesis’s visual capabilities late in the console’s commercial life. Its steep difficulty and short length limited its commercial success on release, but its visual concept has kept it a frequently cited example of stylistic ambition on the platform.
