About Adventure games
The genre was defined on consoles by The Legend of Zelda, which dropped players into an open world with almost no instructions. Its 16-bit follow-up, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, refined the formula with a light world and dark world to explore, and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening proved it worked just as well on the Game Boy.
Other games here lean toward action-adventure, like Beyond Oasis and Landstalker on the Genesis, or Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma on the SNES. If you enjoy deeper stories and character progression, try our rpg collection next.
