About The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is Nintendo’s 1991 SNES entry in the series, the first to introduce the parallel Light World / Dark World structure that later Zelda games would keep returning to. Link travels between the two versions of Hyrule to rescue Princess Zelda and the seven maidens holding back the return of the demon Ganon.
It set much of the template the series used for over a decade — the item-gated dungeon design, the overworld dotted with secrets, the master sword as a mid-game milestone rather than a starting weapon — and its influence shows up directly in Link’s Awakening and the two Oracle games built on the same engine.
