Truxton GENESIS
About Truxton
Truxton is Toaplan’s vertically scrolling shoot-’em-up, released to arcades in 1988 as Tatsujin in Japan before this Genesis port followed in 1989, developed in-house by the same original arcade staff after Sega approached Toaplan about a console conversion. Conceived by designer Masahiro Yuge around memorization-based, pattern-heavy stage design, you pilot a fighter craft through waves of enemies collecting weapon-upgrade pods.
It was voted best shooting game at the 1989 Gamest Awards by Japanese arcade magazine readers, helping establish what became known as the distinctive “Toaplan-style” shooter aesthetic — dense enemy patterns demanding precise memorization over reflexes alone. It later got a proper sequel, Truxton II, continuing the same core formula.
